Spain is a very interesting example of a country that has transitioned into a modern, economically successful and democratic country. During this transition it has retained many enviable features of social and environmental cohesion. Whilst it is beginning to inherit some of the worst features of capitalist societies, the global questioning of the concept of "progress" might just allow them to retain some of their admirable qualities such as respect for the family and a healthy diet based on home cooking skills.
